Social dancing is one of the things I love doing. Not just because there is usually a nice bias between the male/female ratio, but also because it's fun and on the dancefloor, men get to be men again, and women get to be women again, and life gets to be good again.
The day started much earlier for me, I got up at around 11 on Fri, Sep 25th and after eating and showering, decided to browse around the mASF for some motivation. It's interesting, but if you read about someone else gaining success with PU, you suddenly become more motivated AND better equipped mentally to do so. I actually found a post that was uber motivating and decided "That's it! I'm going out there and hooking up w/ someone!"
Made my way to the AQ at SFU. Now for those who have never been there, the AQ is the place where everyone hangs out in the sun and study, so there are some good and bad things about that place. The good is that there are a lot of lone wolves to approach, but the bad is that they are there to study, so you better be super-duper-mega entertaining so you make them forget about school.
I notice a young girl sitting on the grass and decide to open with one of the recent stylelife openers "What is the difference between loving someone and being IN LOVE with someone, the reason I'm asking is [root]" (As a side note, if you're not registered for the stylelife on facebook, do so, he comes up with random stuff once in a while http://www.facebook.com/pages/Stylelife-...6?ref=ts).
We chat a bit about that, and I find out she is here in school in her third year (has to be over 18 then), and she is also very interested in psychology (I believe she majors in that). I channel the convo towards why I think psychology is one of the most interesting sciences ever, and channel to run my 5 animal game as a "psychology personality test"
We keep talking and joking around, and I find out she is very religiously devoted to God, no biggie but may make certain advances more challenging, any experience with this?
End up talking some more and then she gets a call from a friend, talks a bit on the phone and I gather her friend is gonna come soon, means I should wrap this up (well, I got some stuff to do anyways so might as well). We talk a bit more and then I turn to go but then turn back and say "You know what, I really enjoyed talking to you *Pull out iphone* punch your number in, and we'll hangout sometime"
Get her number and exactly then the friend shows up. My target introduces me and I notice her friend is wearing a very similar neckless to my target's so I turn and say "Wow, you two are like neckless sisters (or something like that)." The friend says "almost" and points out the difference, "but it's still very noteworthy of a guy to notice that." Sounds like good points with the friend
. And on my way I carry on.
After a short lap around the main areas of campus (I like to walk around and think, it helps clear your head), I end up coming back through the AQ and a group of 7 or so people shows up and they are taking a picture around the Terry Fox statue. I chat with them and figure they are on a treasure hunt and the picture was one of the things on their list. We talk some more and they gotta run along, oh well.
Fast forward to the evening and I get an invite to a blues night in downtown Vanc. Really got nothing else to do so why not? why not I ask. Get dressed up and make my way down to the bus stop. As I get to the the stop, I meet one of the girls who was part of the treasure hunt, we talk a bit but her bus comes before I can close. Ask for her name and tried to find her via fb, didn't work. Oh well, it's not a big campus, I'll see her around. My bus comes along and I'm looking forward to a nice, quiet ride to downtown...silly me. It's friday night, around 9:30pm, pretty soon the bus is filled with a whole bunch of people and groups on their way to clubs/lounges/bars/whatever else. I'm just zoning out until I arrive to my stop.
As I get there there is already a class in session, but I'm still somewhat zoned out since I haven't figured that it's a FENCING CLASS and I step right up to it...look around, see the folks are putting away swords and march back to hangout with the rest of the future blues dancers. Meet a group of 2 girls and a guy there and one of them is pretty cute. We talk a bit, introduce around and the blues workshop is about to start. As the class goes on, I talk with everyone (we're rotating partners, I'm not being an asshole to the instructor or anything), joke around and maintain high energy. The class ends and I try my strength at my first ever blues dance. It's really fun, the music is good, but not so loud you can't talk, and the place is filled with young folks, I like that, I like it a lot more than nightclubs
The first dance is over and I step off the floor, grab a chair and join another 3 set sitting close by with "What's up?" like we're old friends. We're introduced around and I figure which of the 3 is gonna be my target, let's call her HBbetweenJobs. I ask the set which role does each of the girls fulfill in the group (a mommy, a troublemaker, and a goodie-two-shoe), my girl is a troublemaker, yay for me. One of the girls in the set is half Chinese-half Japanese so I take a shot at my very, very, VERY, limited japanese. Luckily hers is even MORE limited so I end up looking cool. Make sure to dance with all three, two of them I can dip just fine, the third one easily weighs twice my weight so it is PHYSICALLY impossible for me to do so, gotta end a dance with her with a bow or something to that effect. Luckily as I come back to the table with her, someone else she already knows comes over and takes her for a dance, yay for dragon-slayers. The goodie-two-shoe is gone as well so it's just me and my target. We talk a bit, I pour on the kino and make her laugh quite a bit. At some point she's saying she isn't a student, nor is she employed, she's "between jobs" so I tell her something to the effect of "ya know, you're the reason the world is having some mild financial problems at the moment" with a half smile. She gets a bit defensive about that so I decide to just laugh it off. Grab her hands and say "ok, let's go dance." I'm starting to get comfortable with the whole blues motion/swing so I can start dropping some of my salsa/swing moves to make it seem like I'm a super student. She's impressed (and so am I to see this is actually working), and as the dance ends I say "You know, this is really a lot of fun, give me your number and maybe we'll hangout sometime." She punches her number in saying "sure, even though I'm the world's source of financial problems" with a half smile. I laugh at it again, I'm not gonna explain every joke I make. After that I give her a call so she can save my number. We come back to the table and talk some more, at which point a friend asks her to the dancefloor. This is actually a very good break for me b/c now I can go and chat with the set I met at the beginning of the night. Two problems are involved with that set, first there are two of them in a conversation, second, there is another dude who has been interested in them I noticed in the class. In any event, I just go up to them, grab my target's, call her HBBusiness, hands and say "sorry, I'm borrowing her for a dance" with a smile, the friend is cool and off we go. Talk a bit and I tell my target why I think these kinda places are better than nightclubs, you can just chill and meet people and enjoy the music. No alcohol or fights involved. As we come back, her friend is gone, she's dancing with the other guy who was interested in the set...how do you like that? my two "problems" solved each other. HBBusiness and I are able to sit and talk a bit more, pour on kino again and take her through the 5 animal game. I can't exactly remember what happened for the next some time, but somehow I ended up seeing that my PREVIOUS target, HBBetweenJobs is heading out, she waves goodbye, I open my hands for a hug, she opens hers, but we're across a table so I point her to come over to me. She comes over and we hug goodbye.
For the rest of the night I'm busy with HBBusiness. Basically her friend is having a good time with the other AMOG so I have two obstacles taken care off, but that didn't prevent me from screwing some stuff up. As we danced and talked I found out she is also an SFU student, good times. I'm able to get her number as well, don't really remember much from that. I do remember that as my other target was now gone, I think I made a too eager of an impression and may have come across as too needy. Gotta keep that kinda stuff in check, seriously.
At some point the two girls left with the AMOG to wait outside for their ride, I decided it's probably not the best idea to follow since I have no reason to. Nothing else of much interest during the night. Made some friends in SFU rez WITH A CAR so that works really well. Sent a txt to all the numbers I got (including the one I already had called so she has my number, not very bright). Will follow with a comfort call tomorrow.
Any feedback, questions, requests as usual appreciated.
